Howdy fellow bicycle riders, We will have a Time Trial this Wednesday evening at 7 p.m, we are at just about the longest day of the year. The Time trial will be at Twin Springs, you heard me right, Twin Springs. We have talked along time of doing one there and it just so happens that Dennis Larson has donated a half barrel of beer for such an occasion. Twin Springs seems like a logical place to take a half barrel and race some bikes. I will bring some brats and such. See you there.

7:05 p.m. Call to Order

Roll Call: Jeff O’Gara, Matt, Lee Hackman, Kirk Johnson, Pete Blodgett, Jeff Freidhof, Doug Osborn, Benji Nichols, Rich Gosen, Harlan Satrom.

Treasurer’s report: $5,395.41 in our Park and Rec. Acct.  ($624 of that is from Toppling Goliath’s Watershed Wheat Project).  $611.06 in the club checkbook.

Spent: $500 paid to J. Tripp; $310.50 paid for Rogue Hoes; $229.00 paid for TT Prize. Received: $2,0000 from TOW for TRT; $2,700 Sponsors; $400 TT riders.

Reports of Officers, and Committees:

1. Cuyuna Trip June 1-3, 2012

*good report on the trip to Cuyuna. We learned that there is much we could do to improve our own trails in Decorah.

2. Decorah Open Streets Mtn. Bike Tours

*Jeff and Kirk will take care of this assignment. Could use more help if available.

3. Dirt Burger update for the Fri.-Sun., June 8-10, 2012 events.

*Hog Roast Friday night at the Pugsley Pit. Pit is already dug. Suggestion that you’d need better hardwood than what is available in Van Peenen. Start cooking Friday a.m. for evening meal.

*DHPT to pay for ½ the band. We need 8 vols to take money at door Sat.

Unfinished Business

1. Fundraising and sponsorships for 2012. 

*Sponsorships are down. Way down. We need to do follow up.

*It was suggested that DHPT should consider doing some fundraising and visibility work in the community as many people would support us and donate if they were aware of our work and what we have done. Perhaps the Sept 23^rd Open Streets Event would be a place for that to start.

           

2. Trail building and maintenance for 2012.

*Smeby’s is getting bad.

*Do we need a bridge at the “truck top/sign” wash area on Public Television? The landscape there changes after every storm event.

            *Do we need a Dingo?

*IMBA’s guy Hansey says are trails are fine as they are built.

3. Service Project/Canoe Landing.

                         (Committee chair: Deke; Doug Osborn, Jeff O’Gara, Jeff Freidhof).

            *City is considering putting in better canoe landings in town. City Manager Chad Bird is aware of the need and is moving in that direction. Perhaps we should wait and see what the city does… if anything. Check with Lora Friest and Barb Schroeder to see if there is any “River Trail” funding opportunities. Should we speak with Chuck Gipp about it? Tabled by Pete Blodgett.

4. Club Clothing/Hats/Jerseys.

*If someone wants to do it… do it… otherwise it is tabled!

5. NordicQuest Trail Run

*There is NO IOWA Trail Run. We really should consider sponsoring one. Jeff Freidhof will put some things together for the next meeting.  Perhaps a 10k and a 20k.

New Business

*It was suggested that we could put “scan bar icons” on the kiosks so that people could download maps onto their smart phones.

*We need a nice heavy duty “Pop-Up Tent” for events with our DHPT Logo on it.  Jeff O’Gara says a good one would cost around $1,000.

*Trailer needs blocks for the wheels to save on dry rot.
